Porter Service (Receiving and Delivery)
I want to ship my belongings to JPS for delivery to my room for move-in. How can I do that?
1) Pick the package(s) up from our office. No additional fee. 727 W Ellsworth #5, M-F 8:30am-5pm, Sat 9am-1pm (8 min from central campus next to Costco).
2) If you need it as soon as you arrive we a can deliver up to 2 boxes to your room right away (within 90 min). The fee is $100 for one student’s shipment. Call us once you're in your room so we know you'll be there when we arrive.
3) If you don't need it right away, call us after you arrive and we will deliver the shipment sometime in the next 24 hours at our convenience. The fee is $25 for one student’s shipment. We will call you when we're on the way.
We started delivering to residence halls on Monday 8/16 So there’s a good chance we couldn’t get a late arriving into your room. Therefore you have the options options once you have arrived.
So much stuff. So many luggage restrictions. So little room in the car.
Take the load off your mind - literally! Send JPS the things you need in your new space for the fall semester at UM, and we will deliver everything to your room.
Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Register only once for the service ($5) by clicking the link at the bottom of this page. The registration fee simply reserves the service and creates your account. You do not need to know how many boxes you’ll be shipping us at the time of registration nor does everything need to arrive here on the same day.
2. Include insurance for the entire order when prompted during registration. Otherwise you will only pay the default value of up to $50 for a lost box.
3. Ship your belongings to arrive no sooner than July 1 and no later than August 14.

4. We will send an email notification each time a package arrives for you.
5. The credit card on file is charged upon receipt of your package(s). Click here for porter service prices.
Be aware that many vendors ship orders in multiple boxes and we charge for every package we receive, regardless of its size. If several small packages arrive on the same day from the same carrier on the same truck we will attempt to consolidate. But with hundreds of boxes arriving each day our priority is on preventing errors. You may want to ask your vendor to hold multiple items for shipping all in one box.
6. We will deliver your belongings to your new Ann Arbor residence (see more details on this below).
For all other campus addresses, once we receive your items, we will put them on the next delivery to your address. This means we may be able to deliver before you arrive, but this is entirely dependent on the date we receive your shipment AND the management at your new address.
Do not use shipping boxes from Staples, Home Depot or Lowes unless the are rated “Heavy weight”. Their regular boxes are of poor quality and many arrive split open at the seams.
If you change rooms after your boxes arrive there is a fee of $15/box to locate your boxes and move them.

Residence halls: The University is allowing in-room delivery prior to your arrival provided your shipment arrives by August 14th.
Please get your shipments to us as soon as possible even if you don’t know your dorm or move in date. But not before July 1st.
You do not need your dorm assignment to register and start shipping. Just email us that information as soon as you have it.
Large apartment buildings: Your boxes will be in your room prior to your arrival provided the lease paperwork is in order on the date the landlord designates. This is usually a day or two before their main move in date. EXCEPTIONS: Varsity, YoUnion, and U-Towers do not allow in-room delivery prior to arrival. In these buildings we provide in-room delivery after you arrive on your requested date.
Sororities: We provide in-room delivery in sororities prior to house move-in date, provided that we have a room number.
Fraternities: We provide in-room delivery upon arrival, on the date you have indicated.
Again, You do not need to know how many boxes you’ll be shipping to us or your move in date at this time. This is only a registration for service and adjustments can be made later.
